The Splendors of Italy Trip - Group Shot, taken in front of Grand Hotel Borromees

From Milan to Aqui Terme, then on to San Margherita and our final destination of Stresa, our 2013 Splendors of Italy trip proved to be our best trip ever. Jeff and I couldn’t be happier that so many of our customers were able to join us and had such a good time. We thank you for your feedback and suggestions for the next trip. I’ve copied some of the feedback below. Already we are brainstorming to see how we will be able to top it for the 2015 tour.

“You did a fantastic job on the trip to Italy; my wife and I have agreed that it was in our top 3 vacations EVER!!!!"
 -Tom Hassett of T&L Automatics

“It was a Great Trip!! Craig Johnson (our distributor) has been a class act since I met him in late 1997. Eurotech organization is a class act and I appreciate the beautiful trip to Europe. Lisa and I look forward to coming on the trip again in 2015.”  – Robert Schall of Festo

“We were more than amazed with this trip. It far exceeded our expectations.”

smarturn exEMO REPORT

As we’ve just returned from Germany, I wanted to share what I believe is great information: Eurotech introduced a new SMART TURN machine, THE SMART TURN EX.

This machine delivers a unique solution for shafts that require deep hole drilling or boring along with a high amount of milling. The unique feature of this new model is that it can be equipped with a ball screw driven follow-rest along with a ball-screw driven sub-spindle or tailstock, delivering exceptional long term accuracy over our rack and pinion style. Another unique feature.... if the 400mm standard tool length is not enough, a secondary ATC can be ordered to add (up to 2 or an extended) 500mm long tools.

The Eurotech SmartTurn is a solid box way machine with 40 HP main and 34 HP sub and 27 HP milling head with ATC. In addition Heidenhein scales are standard on the Smart Turn, delivering both the best cutting capability and accuracy of any machine in its class.

P.S. I used my phone at the EMO show to video this machine in action. You can watch the video by clicking here.   –Joe Selway

aerospaceAircraft Demand Growth
Good News for Boeing, Airbus

By Paul Ausick September 24, 2013, taken from 247wallst.com

By 2032, the current worldwide airplane fleet of 17,740 planes will nearly double to 36,560 aircraft. The dollar value of the new planes will exceed $4 trillion. The forecast comes from Airbus maker European Aeronautic Defense & Space Co. (EADS) in its latest Global Market Forecast covering the period from 2013 to 2032.

A 20-year timeline in aircraft manufacturing is not really a very long time, considering how long it takes to get a new plane from the conceptual stage to a delivered product. The 787 Dreamliner from Boeing Co. (NYSE: BA) took more than eight years to get from concept to first delivery in 2011. In last year’s forecast, Airbus forecast the global fleet would increase from a then-current count of 15,550 to 32,500 by 2031. That indicates that the number of new planes that will go into service annually also would nearly double.

Demand will grow the fastest in the Asia-Pacific region, where Airbus projects 36% of all new aircraft deliveries will take place. European demand for new airplanes is expected to grow by 20% and North American demand by 19%.

In the United States, some 85% of the demand for new planes will be for single-aisle planes like the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 that serve the domestic market. U.S. carriers like Delta Air Lines Co. (NYSE: DAL), Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV) and United Continental Holdings Inc. (NYSE: UAL) are expected to take delivery of more than 5,500 new planes by 2032. Some 59% of those will replace existing aircraft, and 41% will meet growing demand for air travel.
